De La Cruz Advocates for Texas Water at White House

WASHINGTON -Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) released the statement below following her visit to the White House. De La Cruz met with President Trump to discuss efforts to hold Mexico accountable for theirfailure to fulfill their obligated water deliveries.

“It was an honor to meet with President Trump in the White House to advocate for South Texas and share the devastating impacts of the Mexican Government’s refusal to deliver on their water obligations. President Trump heard my concerns, and together we are committed to holding the Mexican government accountable and having them deliver the over one million acre-feet of water Texans are owed. My team is currently working with the President's legislative affairs team to obtain the water that is owed to us as per the 1944 Water Treaty. This is a step in the right direction for not only South Texas but our entire nation."- Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz

Background:

De La Cruz has prioritized ensuring Texas receives the water resources they are owed under the 1944 Water Treaty. Her efforts have included leading a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio to request Mexico be held accountable as a part of the ongoing trade negotiations. Additionally, De La Cruz introduced H.Res. 71 to condemn the Government of Mexico for failing to fulfill its water deliveries on an annual basis.
