Rep. Monica De La Cruz Named Vice Chair of Congressional Women’s Caucus

South Texas Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) was recently appointed vice chair of the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues.

The caucus, also known as the Women’s Caucus, is a bipartisan Congressional Member Organization (CMO) made up of 153 women – 29% of the overall membership of the House of Representatives. The Women’s Congressional Policy Institute states the caucus has worked to improve the lives of women and families, fought to open doors for women and girls in school and work, and championed fair credit, tougher child support enforcement, equal pay, and retirement income.

“Women’s rights are bipartisan,” De La Cruz said. “That is why I am honored to serve as vice chair of the bipartisan Congressional Women’s Caucus. The caucus is at the forefront of generation-defining legislation, whether it’s the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 which prohibited discrimination based on pregnancy status, or the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, which provides job protection for people who must take leave to care for family or themselves due to a medical issue. Our work continues today in an effort to make the world fair for the next generation of women. We have a lot of work to do, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves.”

Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz is the Republican representative for Texas’ 15th Congressional District. A single mother of two and lifetime resident of the Rio Grande Valley, Monica is proud to represent her fellow Texans that live and work in rural communities both along the southern border and in Texas' vibrant agrarian regions. De La Cruz currently serves on the Financial Services and Agricultural Committees, where she continues to fight every day to serve the people of South Texas.
