De La Cruz, Torres Lead Bipartisan Push to Expand Access to Affordable Housing

WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) and Congressman Ritchie Torres (NY-15) introduced the bipartisan Housing Affordability Act to amend the National Housing Act and update existing multifamily loan limits to accurately adjust for modern expenses, including construction costs for new buildings.

Background:
The bipartisan Housing Affordability Act amends the National Housing Act to update statutory loan limits from the inflationary adjustment index from the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to the Price Deflator Index of Multifamily Residential Units Under Construction. The legislation will allow the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) to use an index that more accurately measures construction costs and ensures statutory limits reflect the actual expense of building, making it financially possible to construct new housing.
