The bipartisan “Save Children from Trauma Act” introduced by Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) in June passed the House today as part of the SUPPORT Act. The “Save Children from Trauma Act” provides resources for the National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative, which helps improve treatment and services for children, adolescents, and families who have experienced traumatic events. The bill reauthorizes the program at the last enacted appropriated level of $93,887,000 for fiscal years 2024-2028. The SUPPORT Act (Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act) addresses America’s opioid crisis. It was initially passed in 2018. "The escalating fentanyl crisis and rising violence in the United States have far-reaching consequences, extending beyond just adults," emphasized De La Cruz. "These challenges are also taking a toll on our nation's children, subjecting them to immediate trauma and potentially leaving lasting scars. I'm pleased by the inclusion of my bipartisan legislation designed to allocate essential resources for children to access the support they need to address and recover from adolescent trauma, ultimately enabling them to grow into thriving, productive adults." |
