FY 2024 Community Funding Project Requests

COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING REQUESTS:

Rep. Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) has submitted funding requests for important community projects in Texas' 15th Congressional District to the House Appropriations Committee.

Under guidelines issued by the Appropriations Committee, each Representative may request funding for up to 15 projects in their community for fiscal year 2024 – although only a handful may actually be funded. Projects are restricted to a limited number of federal funding streams, and only state and local governments and eligible non-profit entities are permitted to receive funding. All requests submitted by Rep. De La Cruz to the House Appropriations Committee are posted below. In compliance with House Rules and Committee requirements, Rep. De La Cruz has certified that she and her immediate family have no financial interest in any of the projects she has requested.

PROJECTS REQUESTED:

Project Name: Tecolote Municipal Utility District
Amount of Request: $1,200,000
Intended Recipient and Full Address: Jim Wells County, 1203 S HWY 281, Alice, TX 78332
Explanation of Request:This community project funding request would provide first time water services by creating a Municipal Utility District for the Community to Tecolote and Fire Protection Emergency Response. The project would allow residents to be provided with adequate drinking water. Cuttenetly, these residents have to rely on well water that may be contaminated with unknown chemicals, or they haul water on a daily basis. Project Name: UTGRV Dry Room Project
Amount of Request: $1,500,000
Intended Recipient and Full Address: University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, 1201 West University Dr., Edinburg, TX, 78539. 
Explanation of Request: This funding would be used to add required infrastructure equipment into UTRGV’s manufacturing incubator for the development of additional industry actors within the district. Project Name: Floresville Regionals Business Plaza
Amount of Request: $4,297,279

Explanation of Request: The funding would be used for a multi-use facility which will include a business incubator, job training center, and provide office space for small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government entities. Project Name: Anzalduas Bridge Expansion Project
Amount of Request: $1,000,000

 Project Name: Radio Communications Within Our Schools
Amount of Request: $1,000,000
Intended Recipient and Full Address: Karnes County Sheriff’s Office, 500 East Wall Street, Karnes City, TX, 78118
Explanation of Request: The funding would be used to improve the entire county radio system to work indoors at school campuses. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it would benefit the public in providing emergency communications to first responders.  Project Name: Liberty Road Cost Overruns
Amount of Request: $4,000,000

Explanation of Request: The funding would be used for a road contruction. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because the funding would be used to cover construction costs of the road project.  Project Name: Pharr Edinburg Regional Kickstart (PERK) Program: Lift Station #1
Amount of Request: $3,2000,000

Explanation of Request: The funding would be used to expand capacity of PERK Program Lift Station #1.  Project Name: Public Safety Complex
Amount of Request: $4,000,000

Explanation of Request: The funding would be used for the construction of a public safety facility.  Project Name: Lift Station No.19 Force Main Realignment and Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project
Amount of Request: $1,394,654.50

Project Name: Repair/Renovate Elevated Water Storage

Project Name: South Texas College Regional Center for Public Safety Excellence Indoor Shooting Range
Amount of Request:$19,359,000

Explanation of Request: This funding would be used for construction of the facility that will be used for the safe use of live firearm ballistic training. Project Name: Meadow Lake Dam Rehabilitation
