The Block Grant Assistance Act of 2023 passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives by a voice vote on Monday, June 12. H.R. 662, which amends the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023 to improve disaster relief funding for agricultural producers, is co-sponsored by Rep. Monica De La Cruz (TX-15). She issued the following statement upon passage: “When disaster strikes, it is important for those hit hardest to receive the disaster relief funds quickly so losses are recovered and businesses repaired. In agriculture, farmers and ranchers must cover losses of crops and livestock. Bureaucratic holdups mean farmers could go under after a natural disaster. I was proud to co-sponsor this legislation, which awards block grants that states can more easily and quickly distribute to agricultural producers. We must protect those who feed America so they can get back to business should disaster strike.” Dale Murden, President of Texas Citrus Mutual, issued the following statement upon passage of the Block Grant Assistance Act of 2023: "I thank the Congresswoman for her efforts and support on this critical legislation that will benefit our farmers in South Texas. Rep. Monica De La Cruz continues to be a champion for the citrus industry and growers across South Texas." |
