President Donald Trump is securing our nation’s border, restoring safety to our communities and delivering on the promises he made to Americans.

Less than two weeks after Inauguration Day, President Trump signed the first bill of his return to office into law. This legislation, named in honor of the 22-year-old nursing student, Laken Riley, requires Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain illegal immigrants who have been arrested for theft, burglary, shoplifting or larceny.

Under President Joe Biden, José Ibarra entered the United States illegally in 2022 and was released — despite his criminal background. Two years later, he took the life of Laken Riley while she was out on an early morning run.

A similar tragedy unfolded in Houston, where two undocumented Venezuelan men brutally murdered 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray.

These horrifying incidents are a direct result of President Biden’s lax immigration policies, which continually allowed criminals to exploit our immigration system, cross the border illegally and commit heinous acts while hiding in our communities. While President Trump works to make our communities safe again, the left is fearmongering and building a false narrative.

President Trump has made it clear: Criminals the Biden administration had allowed into the U.S. are the people ICE has prioritized in lawful, targeted operations.

President Trump is restoring safety in our communities by keeping dangerous criminals out of our neighborhoods after four years of lawlessness. Rule of law is being restored. ICE, Border Patrol and law enforcement agents will be permitted to fulfill their oath, carry out their duties, and uphold the rule of law.

For the last four years, policies that put criminals over Americans instilled a looming fear into American families. Every day, parents worried about their children’s safety, while criminals, like Ibarra, were allowed to roam free.

Americans made their thoughts clear in November — they voted for a secure border, safer communities, and law and order.

The misinformation being shared is only furthering the chaos and holding our communities back. Together, we have one shared goal: safe and secure American communities.

We will continue to work toward achieving our goal, curbing the fear that has been instilled in South Texas for far too long, and protecting American families.
