PHOTOS: De La Cruz Visits RGV Food Bank During Government Shutdown

Today, Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) visited the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley in Pharr, TX.

De La Cruz toured the facility and met with staff to discuss the challenges posed by the ongoing government shutdown and the increased demand for local food assistance programs.

"Nearly 20% of South Texas households rely on SNAP benefits. I voted over a month ago to keep the government open and fund these critical programs. As the shutdown threatens to jeopardize food security for millions, I am supporting legislation to sustain SNAP and ensure families can continue to put food on their tables." - Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz

Due to the ongoing government shutdown, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program(SNAP) benefits are expected to lapse on November 1, 2025. De La Cruz recently co-sponsored the Keep SNAP Funded Act of 2025, which would fund SNAP during any period in which legislation has failed to be enacted to provide continuing or full-year FY2026 appropriations to the USDA.
