Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz Urges Immediate Action to Secure Southern Border In Light of Recent Terrorist Attacks in Israel

Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Monday, expressing her deep concerns about the security of the southern border and the potential implications for national security.

In the wake of the recent attacks in Israel by Hamas, Congresswoman De La Cruz highlighted the imperative need for stringent border security policies to ensure the safety of American citizens. The Congresswoman emphasized the federal government's fundamental duty to protect the American people, drawing attention to the severe risks posed by an unsecured southern border.

Former CIA counterterrorism director Bernard K. Hudson's assertion that an effective counterterrorism policy is contingent on border control is noted in the letter. Congresswoman De La Cruz also notes that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials testified to the decline in safety of American communities since 2021.

One of the most alarming revelations highlighted by Congresswoman De La Cruz is the report from the Border Patrol for the fiscal year 2023. The report stated that 151 migrants with positive terrorist watchlist matches were apprehended after illegally entering the United States via the southern border – an all-time high. She also notes that more than 1.5 million migrants have evaded capture at the southern border during the Biden Administration.

"Strong border security policies are essential to our national security," Congresswoman De La Cruz wrote to Secretary Mayorkas. She urges the Homeland Security secretary to prioritize and reinforce the nation's immigration laws, emphasizing the immediate and pressing nature of the issue.

The Congresswoman's letter is a call to action, urging the restoration of robust border security measures vital for protecting all Americans.
