COPS Grants Awarded to South Texas Communities, Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz Announces

Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) announced the award of three Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program grants on Wednesday, November 8th. De La Cruz wrote to the Attorney General in support of the grants for the cities of Alamo, Alton, and Mission earlier this year.

Awards for each city’s police department are:

  • Alamo: $352,404 (funding for 3 additional police officers)

  • Alton: $250,000 (funding for 2 additional police officers)

  • Mission: $1 million (funding for 8 additional police officers)

“I am proud to announce these COPS Hiring Program grants for Alamo, Alton, and Mission,” De La Cruz said. “Protecting our communities is my number one priority. These grants put officers on the streets and protect our citizens from criminals intent on harm. I thank the Department of Justice for sending this money where its needed in South Texas and I thank the officers willing to step up and serve their communities.”
